“Feedback” is often misconstrued as praise, constructive criticism, or the now-proven-ineffective “compliment feedback sandwich technique.” In this workshop, which is based on a 2018 flash presentation on the same topic, we’ll review models for responding to, and for requesting feedback about, submitted work. Key themes include how to shape feedback appropriate for fresh vs. more developed drafts and emerging vs. experienced writers. Participants will practice giving feedback using actual, anonymous, excerpted writing drafts. Takeaways include a handout participants can use to apply these models in their own writing group or class.
